Outlining our commitments, actions and intentions for better sustainability in 2022 and beyond
Every year we are faced with the increasingly damning impacts of what we, as a species, have wrought on the planet. Our collective appetite for resources and growing consumption habits has driven and continues to accelerate a global temperature increase of 2.7° creating irrevocable damage to our ecosystems, plants, animals, seas and of course to the lives of billions of people.
It’s disheartening reading I know and it’s not something I or the team at Gaia Edge can stand by and watch without acting wherever we can to create innovation and change. That’s why this year I’m launching Gaia Edge Intentions – a shared, collective vision that sets out what’s important to us and just how we will work together with our clients and the wider industry to make any difference we can. If like me you share a vision for a greener, more sustainable future I urge you to take your own actions not just for the betterment today in reducing energy use, emissions or electricity consumption (in all forms) but for the footprint you leave for the future.

Create Shared Value
We believe that traditional business models that focus solely on internal, introverted goals at the expense of broader societal and environmental issues are outdated and broken. At Gaia Edge we will purposefully and intentionally focus on Creating Shared Value (CSV) for our society, building and maintain financial value to our investors and shareholders as a result of the value we create, our mission is to deliver on the sustainable development goals of industry, innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities and responsible consumption and production.
We are committed to reducing our own environmental impact as well as that of our customers, by exploiting new business opportunities to design and redesigning data centers and broader technology infrastructure and architecture, to limit negative externalities such as carbon emissions and improve returns on capital by developing and improving operations.
Helping business reduce energy consumption throughout technology estates
Raise awareness and drive education
Educating ourselves around the impact we have on our environment is a powerful tool to help change, shape and ultimately reduce the effect we have on our planet. In our personal lives as well as in our business lives every action we take, mile we drive or video call we answer uses power and electricity. In setting our intentions for 2022 we will help businesses and individuals better understand their own use technology in a number of key ways;
- We will champion the Gaia Edge metrics app that shows businesses and their people how much energy their everyday tasks consume – helping them to understand and visibly reduce their energy use.
- We will continue to work with technology and sustainability leaders to help them baseline the consumption of their entire technology estates to both drive awareness and measurable consumption data but also identify opportunities and actions that they can take on a micro and macro level to reduce their overall usage.
- Thirdly we will openly publish and create conversation around both the hidden and hidden in plain sight energy use of our everyday activities – helping individuals to consciously make better informed choices.
Helping organisations baseline the energy consumption of entire technology estates
Challenge conventional inefficiency
One of our key intentions for 2022 is to help organisations to not only uncover inefficiencies within their environments but also to reduce and eliminate waste wherever possible Inefficiency is rife in almost every corner of technology, not by design but as a result of evolution. We all recognise that as hardware, software and system design evolves new efficiency goals become achievable, but we think this masks fundamental issues around waste and recovery. Wherever we can Gaia Edge will seek to look further than traditional industry benchmarks to help organisations to deliver a more sustainable approach to technology, using circular economy principles in conjunction with rightsizing and waste recovery to deliver real change.
